Carrie on Singing! Prime Minister’s fiancée Carrie Symonds spends her Friday night judging virtual lip sync battle for 'LGBT + Conservatives'

Boris Johnson's fiancée Carrie Symonds tonight hosted a virtual lip sync battle as part of the Conservative party's annual conference.

The online event, which started at 8pm this evening, was set up by the LGBTQ+ branch of the Conservative party.

Although free to watch, online audience members were encouraged to donate to help raise funds for the party after the entire Conservative Party Conference was moved online this year.

Judging the virtual lip sync performances were Chair of LGBT+ Conservatives Colm Howard Lloyd, Political Communications Strategist at the House of Commons Jessica Zbinden-Webster and Strategy & Policy Director for UCAS John Cope.

The three main judges were joined by special guest judge Carrie Symonds in the Zoom call.

Taking part in the lip sync competition were a host of Conservative MPs including MP for Milton Keynes North Ben Everitt and MP for Bishop Auckland Dehenna Davison.

Former MPs also took part in the competition, with former Health Minister Edwina Currie and the current Chair of the London Assembly Planning Committee Andrew Boff.

At the end of the competition Dehenna Davison was crowned the winner of LGBT+ Conservatives' online competition.

LGBT+ Conservatives initially announced the virtual competition on September 18 and Carrie Symonds confirmed she would be acting as a guest judge when she retweeted the announcement.

Lip Syncing has long been associating with the LGBT community and drag culture, and was popularised in the mainstream as a result of Emmy-award winning show Ru Paul's Drag Race.

The US show, which has spanned 12 seasons as well as dozens of spin-offs and international versions, sees drag queens 'lip sync for their lives' each week in order to remain in the competition.

The Conservative Party conference was due to take place in Birmingham in October, but in July in a letter to members, the party's chair Amanda Milling said the gathering would be held online.
