Ivanka Trump is said to have been left 'surprised and hurt' by comments made on social media by her sister-in-law Karlie Kloss' over the attack on Congress on Wednesday. 

As supporters of President Trump stormed the building, Ivanka posted a tweet in which she called them 'American Patriots.' She later deleted the tweet. 

A few hours later, Kloss, who is married to Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Ivanka's husband Jared, tweeted, 'Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American.'

A social media user fired back at the supermodel: 'Tell your sister in law and brother law.' Kloss responded: 'I've tried'

Not all of Kloss' fans were upset, as some said she stands behinds her own beliefs  

The post immediately drew a rebuke from one of her followers on social media who wrote: 'Tell your sister-in-law and brother-in-law', to which Kloss responded: 'I've tried.'

'The tweet was brought to Ivanka's attention and she was mostly surprised because they're so close and talk on a regular basis, but never really about politics,' a family friend told Page Six.

'Karlie likes to position herself publicly as an activist, yet she's never approached Ivanka on any of the issues she's championed like paid maternal leave, women in STEM and criminal justice reform, the friend said.

The friend of the supermodel said that Karlie 'feels it's pretty unfortunate that this is what Ivanka is choosing to spend her time on while our democracy is facing a crisis fueled by this administration.

'Karlie was proud to campaign for Hillary in 2016, Biden in 2020, and, in addition to supporting many key issues, has made the maximum financial contribution to Democratic campaigns across the country.'

'She hasn't had a close relationship with Jared and Ivanka for quite some time due to the policies of the Trump administration. I think Karlie feels it's pretty unfortunate that this is what Ivanka is choosing to spend her time on while our democracy is facing a crisis fueled by this administration.'

In response, a friend of Ivanka and Jared responded: 'Understandably, the moments of the day left everyone feeling fraught and upset, but Ivanka would of course be open to hearing from Karlie about her views.'   

Kloss and Josh have reportedly had something of a fraught relationship with Ivanka and Jared in recent years due to their political differences.

While Jared and Ivanka are some of Trump's closest advisers, Kloss and Josh have been vocal about their support for the Democrats

While Jared and Ivanka are some of Trump's closest advisers, Kloss and Josh have been vocal about their support for the Democrats. 

Back in October, Kloss wore a Joe Biden mask as she posed for a photo with her 2020 mail-in ballot. 

The insider told the New York Post that she has in fact not tried to discuss her different views with Ivanka Trump.

'Karlie is public with her politics, but privately shies away from discussing them,' they added. 'But they are very close and they really enjoy each other's company, so Ivanka is hurt.'

Kloss later doubled down on her tweet according to the source: 'Ivanka understands Karlie's views perfectly. They've had many political discussions contrary to what she and her team would have you believe.
