Moment teenager 'runs from the scene of Brisbane crash' - as hero bystander who desperately tried to save pregnant woman's life relives her harrowing last moments

CCTV footage has emerged of a teenager accused of fatally running down a couple and their unborn son allegedly running away from the crash scene - as a hero bystander relives one the victim's final moments.

Kate Leadbetter, 31, and her boyfriend Matthew Field, 37, died after they were allegedly hit by a teenage driver in Alexandra Hills, Brisbane's east, on the evening of Australia Day.

The pair were out for a walk with their dogs when the 17-year-old - allegedly high on drugs and driving a stolen 4WD - ploughed into a truck before rolling and hitting the couple.

Security vision obtained by 10 News shows what looks like the 17-year-old sprinting down a Brisbane street away from the crash.

The teenager, who has been charged with murder, was arrested by police a short time after he allegedly fled the scene.

It comes as a hero bystander, who wishes to remain anonymous, spoke about Ms Leadbetter's final moments, as he tried to save her life.

'I was there. I held her hand. I also witnessed possibly her taking her last breath,' the man said.

'I was saying to Kate ''please don't give up, don't give up. Stay with us''.'

The man performed CPR with another bystander before paramedics arrived.

The witness wants Ms Leadbetter's family to know that the mum-to-be wasn't alone in her final moments.

'There were two people there trying to work on her, trying to save her,' he said.

Speaking out about the accident for the first time on Friday, the inconsolable families of Ms Leadbetter and Mr Field said they were 'forever heartbroken'

On Friday, the families of the victims revealed the young couple were planning to call their unborn son Miles.

They said the pair were so excited about becoming parents they had already set up a nursery for their little boy.

'To have lost three cherished members of our families in such a senseless and sudden way is beyond our comprehension,' one of the family members said.

'For us to sit here today without our beautiful son Matt and our darling daughter Kate is unbearable.

'We are grief stricken that they never got to experience the birth of their baby boy who we discovered in recent weeks was to be named Miles.'

'There is a nursery created by Kate and Matt with joy and love and anticipation that our little grandson, Miles, will never occupy.'

The family members stood arm-in-arm and held back tears as they expressed how distraught they were that Ms Leadbetter and Mr Field had their dreams of parenthood taken away.

'I love spending time with you, you fill my cup' was the last words Ms Leadbetter told her friend in the days before she was killed

Described as 'talented and funny and such good company', the couple had recently shared an ultrasound of their unborn son.

Ms Leadbetter was due in just a few months.

The family also gave thanks to the overwhelming support of the community in the wake of the crash - including those who searched tirelessly for the couple's beloved dog Frankie who fled the scene.

'To everyone who left flowers, messages, and other tokens of good will, to all who spent hours searching the streets and parklands of Alexandra Hills and Wellington Point for our poor frightened Frankie, we are so grateful,' the families said.

A close friend of Ms Leadbetter has also revealed the final words she told her just days before she was killed.

The friend known as Leith left a note behind at the mural set up for the young couple at the intersection where they died.

'My heart feels like it has been broken into a million pieces,' the note read.

'When I left your place on Sunday, your last words to me were ''I love spending time with you, you fill my cup''.

'I will hold onto those last words forever.'

The 17-year-old who was allegedly behind the wheel was remanded in custody on numerous charges including two counts of murder at Brisbane Children's Court on Wednesday.

His case will be heard again in court at the end of March.

Danielle Leadbetter, the aunt of Ms Leadbetter, earlier said her father was so traumatised by the accident that he was unable to speak.

'John is just in shock - he can't even talk,' Danielle Leadbetter told the Courier Mail.

'The whole family is in exactly the same state. It's a state of shock.'

She said the toughest part was knowing her family never got to say goodbye to Kate.

'If someone is sick and you know that they're going to die, you can prepare for that. You can't prepare for a tragedy like this,' she said.

The couple's dog Frankie fled the scene and disappeared following the crash at about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

As Frankie vanished, as many as 1,300 locals banded together to track her down with some searching well into the night - amid fears she would die without life-saving medication she is given daily.

In a small win for the couple's loved ones in an otherwise tragic story, the traumatised animal was found hiding in dense bushland at about 11.30am on Wednesday.

Frankie suffers from Addison's disease which means she requires daily medication and is now being cared for by Dr Ray Baxter at the SuperVets clinic.

Dr Baxter said despite countless offers from the community to cover the cost of her medical bills, the clinic had waived the fees for looking after Frankie.
